Planning a Trip to Fabulous Zermatt

By   November 11, 2019

So, you’ve decided you just can’t resist taking that ski trip you’ve been dreaming about any longer.  The fabulous ski resort at Zermatt is one of the most awe-inspiring places you could choose to visit, and you’ve got plenty of company if you decide to plan a trip there.

Zermatt is widely acknowledged as one of the world’s top ski resorts and features a large array of other sights and experiences.  There’s also an abundance of Zermatt hotels that will fit into anyone’s travel budget.

Naturally, part of planning your trip involves booking your flight.  Most flights arriving from throughout the world will land at Zurich or Geneva, and both are convenient to Zermatt.  Both of these international airports are fully integrated into Switzerland’s efficient train network.  All you need to do is check your bags and skis directly through to Zermatt and hop on board a train shortly after you arrive.  A passenger embarkation area for trains bound for Zermatt is conveniently located beneath both airports.

You’ll also need to book your Zermatt accommodation.  Because Zermatt is such a popular ski destination, it’s best to do this in advance.  You’ll have more choices and get a better price than if you waited to arrange your hotel until after you arrive.  Fortunately, now that we have the Internet, booking in advance is easy to do.

After you arrive and check into your accommodation, you’ll be able to start exploring this quaint, charming village.  Look up and you’ll see the mighty Matterhorn, the most iconic mountain in the world.  Then put on your boots and strap on your skis.  Zermatt is an incredible ski destination and features some of the best winter sports in the world.  And, because of the looming presence of the Matterhorn, it’s also rich in mountain climbing history.  Breathtaking scenery, terrific skiing and snowboarding, and friendly hospitality at the village’s restaurants, cafés, shops and hotels combine to make Zermatt a wonderful destination at any time of the year.

This is the trip of a lifetime, so make sure you stay at a place that lives up to the destination .  Likewise, you’ll want to dine at some of the fine restaurants in Zermatt while you’re there.  Take a ride on Europe’s highest ski lift, the Klein Matterhorn cable car.  You’ll be able to see Mont Blanc and Monta Rosa (Europe’s two highest mountains) along the way.  Plus, the viewing platform at the top will let you witness the stunning Theodul Glacier and give you a mind-blowing, 360-degree view of the Swiss, French and Italian Alps.  Don’t forget to take a ride on the nearby Gornergrat cog railway – it’s the second-highest and best mountain railway in the world.  Then kick back, relax and catch your breath while sitting in front of a toasty fire at one of Zermatt’s après-ski cafés or pubs before heading back to your hotel.
