Zermatt Summer Skiing

Zermatt ski vacations are not only for the winter – – Zermatt ski vacations are also popular summer destinations in Switzerland.  Zermatt is located in a region of the Swiss Alps that is high enough to provide excellent ski conditions even during the summer months.  Well-groomed glacier slopes are perfect for both beginners and experts.  In fact, many ski teams use Zermatt for off-season training.  The resort boasts high speed runs along with several black pistes for more experienced skiers.  Beginners can take lessons at the ski school to improve their skiing abilities before taking to the slopes.  With a super pike, rail park and kicker park, the Gravity Snowboard Park is one of the top freestyle snowboard parks in Europe – – a snowboarders idea of heaven on earth.

If your intention is to get as much skiing in as possible during your trip to Zermatt, an “all areas” ski pass is probably your best option.  These passes are valid for all of the mountain transport facilities.  You can even purchase a supplemental pass that will allow you to ski on Italy’s Cervinia runs.  However, if you Zermatt vacation is only a few days, you may want to opt for a one or two-day pass.

During the summer, ski lifts typically open at seven in the morning but will close by two in the afternoon because the snow begins to get wet in the late afternoon.

After enjoying a great morning of skiing on the slopes, summer tourists can enjoy Zermatt’s great shops and restaurants.  They can also take advantage of one of the many spa facilities in the city that offer relaxing and unique spa treatments.  Because Zermatt weather is pleasant during the summer months, tourists also enjoy a variety of outdoor activities in addition to skiing.  You can enjoy a mountain biking or hiking through Zermatt’s beautiful landscape.
